Nutritional Information on Wine Labels: New EU Regulations as of 2023
As of December 8, 2023, wine producers in the European Union are required to display nutritional information on their winelabels. These regulations aim to better inform consumers about the contents of wine.
Wine labels must show the number of calories, which can either be displayed directly on the label or made accessible via a QR code. Other nutritional values, such as carbohydrates and sugars, are optional and can also be provided via a QR code.
This move reflects a broader desire for greater transparency regarding alcoholic beverages, similar to what is already mandated for non-alcoholic foods.
This is turning the wine world upside down! But at PURE The Winery, we have been transparent about the nutritional values of our Zero Sugar Wines for years. And not by hiding them behind a QR code, but by providing a clear nutritional label, just like on other food products. This way, you always know exactly what you're drinking — and more importantly, what you're not drinking: no sugar, no carbohydrates, and fewer calories.
Did you know that every batch of our wines is tested in two different laboratories? These tests ensure that our wines truly contain no sugar and no carbohydrates. Only after passing these checks are we allowed to label our wines as containing 0 grams of sugar and 0 grams of carbohydrates.
